- Congrats on all your
success, both here and obviously at home. How's it being back in the
US for you
after your stint here in the
UK? Is it a
very different experience for you when you come here?
Thank you first
of all.
- It is very nice to be
home, always. It is a very different experience in the UK. It’s a totally
different culture and is really amazing.
-
-

You've had greater success over here than a lot of US bands in the same
genre. You've played larger shows, had a lot wider range media attention,
and sold a load of albums. What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute our success to Jesus Christ alone.
You made an appearance on Radio 1 while you were here. You took
part in the Live Lounge I believe. They have also added Misery
Business to their playlist (a usual compilation of Indie bands and Hip
Hop) Other Fueled By Ramen artists like Fall Out Boy, Panic at
the Disco and Gym Class Heroes have also made the station, although
don't receive regular air time.
- How important is it
to you to gain this kind of exposure of a National kind, and do you wonder
if your appearance on the show is maybe more a token gesture to the genre,
or some good radio plugging over genuine interest in your band, and the
Alternative genres?
I think Worldwide exposure is very good for a band these days. A lot of
bands focus on only one or two countries too much. There’s a lot of ground
to cover as far as I’m concerned.
- As far as Radio 1;
all I know is we were asked to perform and do an interview and we took the
opportunity. It’s about the music to us. Not getting a radio plug.
-
-
- Fueled By Ramen have a great reputation, and have some incredible, and some of he most
successful alternative bands currently around. What is your relationship
like with the label?
Our label is the best out there. They honestly care about each band. They
care about their bands on a personal level. John Janick (the president)
would totally understand if I wanted to quit tomorrow.
- Not saying I want to at
all (laughs). Just trying to prove how cool they are.

The front person of any band gets most of the attention that comes with
the job description. In the case of Paramore, and having a female
front woman this is even more so. You have made a very conscious effort to
get the point across that Paramore Is A Band. Do you feel that maybe
even with all your efforts and push with that point that it is still being
over looked a little, or not really taken quite as seriously as you actually
mean it?
Umm sometimes.
- It’s all good though. I
really don’t mind being in the background.
Hayley has a lot of pressure on her being the front person and all. I don’t
think I could handle it.
When you started out did you ever have any concerns about having a female
front woman; did it surprise you how much of an issue it has become?
We were a little concerned about Hayley being our lead singer especially
because Avril Lavigne was huge at the time we were forming and we did
not want to be like her. But, at this point there are no regrets with that
decision.
You have spoken out most about this and your frustration is more than
understandable. You have a massive part in the song writing process; you and
Hayley are the main song writers. It must be hard when you're over looked
and not given a lot of the credit that you deserve?
I really don’t mind being over looked. I work my butt off for this band, but
so does everyone else in the band. Everyone gets over looked for their hard
work every once and while. We are all working toward the same goal so it’s
ok.

- It is well known how
close you are as a band, and that you're all like family. Does this ever get
in the way of the functioning of the group – in the sense of that you're
maybe less honest with each other when giving opinions in case of causing
upset, maybe when writing songs or talking about live shows?
Usually it works the other way around. Since we are so comfortable with each
other we can be a little too honest sometimes I feel.
Following from that your live show are pretty tight, how rehearsed are
they?
We usually practice about 4 days straight before the tour. Nothing too
serious though.
What is it like at a Paramore rehearsal session and how do you go
about choosing your set list for your tours? Do you still practice on your
own away from the band and set rehersals?
Paramore rehearsals are pretty chill. We usually try to come up with
our opening and closing song first then work the middle until we feel we
have a good set.
- I do practice some on
my own. Not enough though.
Do you go to many gigs outside of your own? Being in a band obviously has
its perks, so what was the last show you had to pay to get into?
I don’t go to many gigs unless is someone I love. The last gig I paid to get
into was a Copeland show about a year ago.
- So what are your
plans now, your touring a lot; with Jimmy Eat World, the Warped
Tour, and obviously back here for Give It A Name? You've got a
bit of a break from touring in late May/early June; what are you going to be
doing during that time?
I’m going to be relaxing with my friends and family back home. Nothing else.
- OK so maybe I will be
writing songs for the new record.
What are your own personal plans now and in the near future?
My plan is to be in the band as long as I can be.
- But things don’t always
go the way you want them to. So if I had to pick something else it would
have to do with the music industry.
- Zac has mentioned in
some interviews that the new album may have influences from bands like
Thrice and Arcade Fire. Are you keen to explore new avenues with
the bands sound, push boundaries, and maybe break away a little from your
current sound?
Zac really wants it to sound like those bands, but honestly the songs we
have now just sound like a more mature Paramore. It’s hard to
describe.
- On that note what's
your thoughts on Panics new album?
I think it’s cool. A little too much like the Beatles for my taste
but they do it well.
Any final comments for the readers/UK in general?
Yes. I know a lot of you are probably bummed about us cancelling some shows.
I would just like to apologize one last time about that. We will be there
very soon!
